The Heart of Racing set for WEC season finale in Bahrain
Sakhir, Bahrain (October 29, 2024) - The Heart of Racing Team heads to Bahrain International Circuit for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season finale this weekend as the globe-trotting championship stages its final event of the 2024 season.
The team will look to add to a remarkable 2024 season, which has seen the Heart of Racing deliver strong campaigns in SRO, IMSA, and WEC competition including a run to second in IMSA WeatherTech’s GTD PRO championship as well as runner-up in the SRO Pirelli GT4 America’s PROAM championship.
The No. 27 Heart of Racing trio of Ian James, Daniel Mancinelli, and Alex Riberas are currently fourth in championship points, just seven points behind the current second place points holder. In WEC’s race length points system, the eight hour event will have 39-points on offer, one point for pole position and 38-points for the race.
Bahrain International Circuit has a special place in the Heart of Racing Team’s history as the team earned its first WEC podium in Bahrain during the 2023 season finale weekend.
“I’m excited to go to Bahrain to close out the season,” said Riberas. “The weekend should be super exciting, since we are going back to a place where we had a podium finish last year. We are in the fight to finish second in the championship, which would be a big achievement for our first full season in WEC. There really isn’t a better way to close out the year than to go to Bahrain with the aim of executing a good race and bring back some hardware. I think the whole team is very confident and I’m looking forward to it.”
James, Mancinelli, and Riberas currently have three podium finishes over the 2024 WEC season including a win at the team’s home track of Circuit of the Americas. The trio has led over 200 laps of competition through seven events so far this season.
“Bahrain will be the last race of our season that has been successful so far,” said Mancinelli. “Our goal heading into the weekend is the same as has been, get on the podium. I’m very confident we will be competitive, especially after earning a third place finish there last year. I do enjoy the track and know that Ian, Alex, and myself will give everything we have to get the best result for the team.”
The Babco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain will take the green flag at 2:00pm local time / 7:00am ET and run until 3:00pm ET with live coverage in the United States on MAX or the WEC app.
