Team Notes
At the start of the race, De Angelis was hit from behind, causing damage to the rear of the AMG. Under an early safety car, the team brought the No. 27 AMG down pit lane for repairs.
An hour and a half into the 12-hour race, James encountered a rear suspension issue, forcing the No. 27 AMG into the garage, falling seven laps off the lead lap.
A red flag came out with three and a half hours remaining and went back green for a two and a half hour sprint race. De Angelis and Barrichello were able to work their way from 9th in class to 7th in class in the final hours.
Chatting with the drivers…
Roman De Angelis: “Quite an unfortunate first minute of the Bathurst 12 hours, but a really strong 11 hours and 59 minutes. It was definitely a race of ‘what could have been’ after contact in the first corner from behind caused damage that manifested into a suspension failure 30 minutes later with Ian behind the wheel, ultimately putting us seven laps down. Although the result wasn’t what we wanted it was still such a privilege to drive this iconic race with two great teammates, and a great team.”
Eduardo “Dudu” Barrichello: “It was a great weekend, shared with a great group of people. WE got damaged on the first lap, and that really compromised our race. We ended up seven laps behind when everything got repaired. We never gave up, and we knew we wouldn’t get the results we were aiming for, but we continued on pushing and that really shows a lot about the spirit of the team. We had great pace, and collected great data for future races. Super grateful to have had this opportunity, and I already can’t wait to be back. “
Upcoming Races
De Angelis, Barrichello, and The Heart of Racing will compete in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 21st. The following weekend, James and The Heart of Racing will go to Qatar for the World Endurance Championship season opener.
